Gina Warnes Costume

About me

Growing up in Somerset I danced from a young age at a local dance school. By taking exams and performing in different shows, from professional companies to local panto to village fetes I was introduced to the world of live performance.

Through my love of dance and performance, I was drawn to costume and have pursued this path since my G.C.S.E choices. I have completed G.C.S.Es in Art and Textiles, A Levels in Art and Textiles and then studied at Arts University Bournemouth where I received a First Class BA Honours Degree in Costume Design with Performance.
Through my time at university I worked on many different projects including live performances in my final year. I learnt construction skills such as pattern drafting, draping, fitting, tailoring, dancewear, corsetry and applied decoration. I was also involved in the dressing side of costume on shows that needed different skills from quick changes to complex layered costumes to upholding particular design concepts. This is where I learnt that I enjoy working as a team to create beautiful performances and help them run smoothly. By having a background in performing myself, I always use this to my advantage when working in costume by knowing how costumes need to give performers certain movements and how to keep performers comfortable through shows - doing my job so they can deliver their best performance.

I now wish to continue working in the costume industry, I have my own space and equipment - Sewing machine, Overlocker, Mannequin etc, so can work from home or in a pre-set up studio anywhere as I am willing to travel or relocate. Please feel free to contact me about one offs, short contracts or permanent work.
